shift in thinking

There’s something more powerful than the many perils arrayed against us, and that’s the brilliance of the human spirit. Imagination and collaboration, once harnessed and directed, can propel us into a better world. But it will require the best from everyone, including you.

What is TED?

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is devoted to spreading ideas. Ideas packaged in short, powerful talks, address universal topics that inspire and bring people together. A global community has been created, welcoming people from every discipline and culture. TED gives them a platform to share their passion and their way of looking at the world with an audience that spans the globe.

What is TEDx?

TEDx events bring the power of TED to local communities. They’re Independently organized by curious individuals looking to capture the power of the ideas around them. Operating under a license granted by TED, TEDx events feature live speakers who spark conversations and generate a shift in thinking.

Our History

TEDxSurrey is the successor organization to TEDxBearCreekPark. Our first event took place in 2019 with 100 attendees. Our 2020 event had an audience of over 900 at the beautiful Bell Performing Arts Centre. Due to the pandemic, our 2021 event was a virtual event and was viewed on over 3,000 screens in more than 30 countries.

Our 2022 event was our first with the prestigious city-level name, TEDxSurrey. TED grants major city-level designations sparingly and only to groups that have proven themselves capable of producing high-quality events. Tickets were sold-out and an online crowd from around the world caught the show.

No matter what name you know us by, you can count on us to deliver an electrifying experience that will make you feel stirred, enriched, and invigorated. You will leave with more hope for a better tomorrow, because, well, we know you will make it so.

Our Leadership

Bringing TEDx to Surrey is a driving passion for our leadership team and all the hard work is paying off. We come from different backgrounds, but we’re committed to achieving a single goal – discovering and showcasing ideas that can transform us and enhance our community. Here’s the team leading the efforts of all to make TEDxSurrey the best it can be.

FAQ

The TEDxSurrey 2025 event will take place on Saturday January 18th, at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey. This is a beautiful, professional theatre with excellent acoustics.

Our theme continues to be, “A Shift in Thinking”. There has never been a time in history when we need to shift our thinking on so many critical issues. We believe the right shift in thinking can change our actions and lead to positive changes in our world. We are placing a greater emphasis on the “E” in TED, which stand for Entertainment, this year.

This event will feature twelve speakers, who all came out on top with the best ideas, after a months-long competition. In addition, there will be musical interludes and entertainers to keep things moving. There will be a break with complimentary lunch and refreshments and the opportunity to network. The speakers’ talks will be professionally videotaped and their videos will be uploaded to the TEDx YouTube channel where potentially millions of people could watch their video.

Speakers will showcase ideas from various areas of human endeavor: science; technology; art, music and design; human rights, law and business; current events and topical issues; personal growth and development.
